SOCIAL SYSTEMS

RESEARCH | ANALYSIS | VISUALISATION

This project represents an ongoing exchange with the Complexity Research Group at LSE [ 1 ]

Having undergone training in a methodology for exploring the multiple interrelated dimensions of a human social system, I contributed to interview, analysis and designed visualisation methods  for expressing the detail and structure of complex social systems.

¬ Organic Metaphor

Often when a social system of humans is conceived of, it is done under a mechanistic metaphor, each component part contributing to the singular function of the whole.

In considering the principles of complex systems theory, an organic metaphor, whether that be cellular, ecological or medical offers a more accurate analogue for the functioning of a social system.

In the rich, interconnected, dynamic nature of biological systems, we capture the agency of the members, the rich variety of their interconnections and the natural deviations from abstract form that all human social groups embody.
